I could be a morning person if it just started later.

Every morning I get up at 6:00AM and get my son up and off to school. I HATE MORNINGS!  I usually get back from driving him to school at about 7:15, and sometimes l go back to bed for a little while. It makes me feel sluggish and is a total waste of some very valuable time, but I can’t seem to kick the habit.  Until now!  This week, I have been staying up, and I even got out the door and ran a nice 4 miler this morning. I got home in time to spend some time with my daughter before she had to go to school. I can’t tell you what a great feeling it is.In fact, it shaped my whole day. I really do love running in the morning, which is odd, since I hate mornings (or used to).  But there is so much beauty out there in the bright new day.

Today, I felt so good all day after getting my run in before the day was gone. I felt so good that when my buddy Shane called at 4 in the afternoon and asked if I could kick out a quick 3 miler with him, I didn’t even hesitate. We had a great run, and I got a second run in a the same day! I feel bulletproof!

Isn’t it amazing how something that we always dread (mornings for me), can become something that we look forward to?  I remember looking at the bed when I got back to the house this morning, and thinking, “I’ll just lay down for a minute”.  I know this will always be a big struggle for me, but this morning, I WON!

Life is a lot like that. The things that we need to do the most, we sometimes dread the most also. But when we buckle down and just do it, we end up blessed.  Maybe Nike had the right idea when they coined the phrase, “Just do it!”

I can’t guarantee that I will suddenly be a bright and cheery morning person, but I do know that it is looking better every day! Life is a marathon, and I need to train for it.

Happy running,

Rundad

  1. Hey Rundad, good for you! I am a big morning person. Getting my run in early makes for a better day overall. Keep at it, mornings can be great! Happy running

    • And coffee tastes so much better early! 🙂 Thanks Danielle.

  2. I agree with you…I like the feelings of accomplishment when I get it done in the morning…but I like my sleep in teh morning too…rather, I like my bed adn being warm adn cozy in it….but as everything else about what I thought i liked over teh years has changed…I suspect this will change eventually too….sigh…the woes of growing older!

Thanks for commenting over at my place!! How did you find my blog? I am always curious about this!

    • Yes, growing older changes lots of things, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. 🙂 I found your blog through the tag blog feature on the left side of the dashboard. Give it a try, it shows you any blog with similar themes to yours.

  3. Good work! Keep at it! I always have better perspective on the day when I do an early morning run. I can’t recommend it enough.

    • Thanks. It also makes you look forward to the rare sleep in day. 🙂

  4. Great post….I hate mornings too, so I can really relate.
I’ve had a few morning runs that went ok (despite the rumbling stomach), but nothing before 9am so far.
I’ll definately have to try it though once the weather warms up a bit here 🙂

    • I actually do eat a bagel with a little cream chesse before I head out. I cannot run on an empty stomach. Good luck with getting going now that we are warming up and the sun is out earlier(until this weekend).

  5. I am with you on the mornings! My son wakes between 5:30 and 6, and on the rare occasion that I get him back to sleep I head straight back to bed. Last summer I would get up at 6 and walk the dog before anyone woke up. I loved it. I’d like to get there again. Maybe, with your inspiration I will! Thanks for sharing!

    • Glad I could maybe help a little. Hang in there and think about the positive part of getting up. 🙂

  6. Early mornings are rough. What are we going to do after this weekend? That 6:00am alarm clock will feel like 5…The “spring forward” always sends me for a loop…

    • Yes, this whole Spring forward thing is not good for the first couple of weeks for me either. 🙂

  7. Bulletproof? You are not kidding! I would love to double up once in a while, but by 3 pm I am useless! I am a morning runner, can squeeze in an afternoon run if I have to, but a double? Go, Rundadrun, go! Yahoo!

    • Thanks! 🙂 I really kind of liked it.

  8. I totally agree with your comment…Nike’s slogan gets me through a lot of rough stuff. Good on you for getting out there two times in one day!

    • Thanks. Now if I can just keep it up.

  9. Wow 2 runs in 1 day? That’s awesome…thanks for stopping by my blog and giving me some advice 🙂

    • You are welcome. It is always fun to see someone excited about running. Keep it up and enjoy that rain run. 🙂
